Untitled DocumentKiller heat waves, constant brownouts, scarce drinking water, devastating hurricanes, drought, massively higher food prices, coastal cities inundated by the sea, and oceans made of acid. These may sound like scenarios from a bad science fiction movie, but they're not, they're real, and they're all documented in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Summary for Policymakers Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis. And now, you can read this history-making report on your Palm. The report includes: "Widespread changes in extreme temperatures have been observed over the last 50 years. Cold days, cold nights and frost have become less frequent, while hot days, hot nights, and heat waves have become more frequent. The frequency of heavy precipitation events has increased over most land areas, consistent with warming and observed increases of atmospheric water vapour. More intense and longer droughts have been observed over wider areas since the 1970s ... ...increases in carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide is ... unprecedented in more than 10,000 years. Mountain glaciers and snow cover have declined on average in both hemispheres. Based on a range of models, it is likely that future tropical cyclones (typhoons and hurricanes) will become more intense, with larger peak wind speeds and more heavy precipitation associated with ongoing increases of tropical sea surface temperatures. Average Northern Hemisphere temperatures during the second half of the 20th century were very likely higher than during any other 50-year period in the last 500 years and likely the highest in at least the past 1300 years. Sea ice is projected to shrink in both the Arctic and Antarctic under all SRES scenarios. Increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations lead to increasing acidification of the ocean. If a negative surface mass balance were sustained for millennia, that would lead to virtually complete elimination of the Greenland ice sheet and a resulting contribution to sea level rise of about 7 m. Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, widespread melting of snow and ice, and rising global mean sea level."To read Climate Change 2007: The Physical Science Basis on your Palm, you must first have eReader installed.
