Address Actions is an open source utility for working with address information in Mac OS X 10.4 (and hopefully 10.3). Select an address in an email, webpage or other text, then choose Address Actions from the Services menu to add the address to the Mac OS X Address Book, or display maps for Australian addresses.

It is early days for Address Actions, with plenty of work still to be done, and lots of potential for enhancement. However, power users may find it worth a look now, and Cocoa or Perl developers might like to contribute to the project.

Known issues with this release include:

  • Application is very slow to start up (hence should always be started at login).
  • Many address formats are not yet handled correctly.
  • Maps are only implemented for Australia (using www.whereis.com.au).
