Software Update's log folder permissions can be screwed up by installing system software updates or from other sources. Unfortunately Apple's Disk Utility "repair permissions" function doesn't fix these permissions (!).. This utility will assist to fix them so future software update installs are successfully logged. The problem affects 10.1.5 and up.
