NodeScan allows people to easily share any kind of file, as well as chat and search for files, over the Internet or an Intranet. The software is currently in beta. NodeScan is a hybrid peer-to-peer/client-server based system which combines the benefits of both kinds of networks. It consists of separate server and client applications. NodeScan provides a platform for a variety of network services. The NodeScan network architecture has been designed for ease of use, stabilty and scalabilty. NodeScan Server now supports streaming Ogg Vorbis format audio files. With the latest version of the NodeScan Client application users can listen to music and other audio files over the network. While not optimized for streaming across limited bandwidth connections, the current implementation is suitable for Local Area or other high speed networks.
NodeScan's sophisticated indexing and searching capabilities make finding music files a breeze and favorite tracks can be added to a playlist for convenient access.
NodeScan can be used in conjunction with a Wireless Ethernet (Wi-Fi) networking system to create a wireless personal music network. For example users can run NodeScan Server on a computer which is connected to a Wireless hub and listen via the NodeScan Client on a computer in another room.
