SQL Server Service Pack 2 (SP2) addresses specific issues that were discovered in SQL Server 7.0 and Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) 1.0 since their ship date. Because SQL Server Service Packs are cumulative, SP2 includes all fixes from Service Pack 1 (SP1) and can be applied to an original installation or to one where SP1 was previously applied. It is recommended that you include SP2 in all new SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0 installations. SP2, for SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0, is in two parts to reduce the size of downloads: Database Components and OLAP Services Components. Database ComponentsSP2 updates for the database components of SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0 include: Data engine. Database client utilities, such as SQL Server Enterprise Manager and osql for SQL Server 7.0. Database client connectivity components, such as the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server, the SQL Server Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver, and the client Net-Libraries. OLAP Services ComponentsSP2 updates for the online analytical processing (OLAP) services components of SQL Server 7.0 include: OLAP Services. OLAP client components, such as OLAP Manager and the OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services. Database client connectivity components, such as the OLE DB Provider for SQL Server, the SQL Server ODBC driver, and the client Net-Libraries. Note: SQL Server 7.0 sites can use the SP2 Database Components to upgrade their database components without upgrading their OLAP Services components and vice versa. To upgrade both database components and OLAP Services components for your SQL Server 7.0 site, you must apply both parts of the service pack. Use only the SP2 Database Components to upgrade MSDE 1.0 components.
