A surprisingly good program from Montana Software. SpeedTec modifies Windows settings to speed data transfer for any modem. The result? Faster web browsing, faster downloads, faster e-mail, faster online gaming, faster audio/video streaming, and faster chat. Properly supports AOL adapters and DUN 1.3. Features a quick-start guide with easy, step-by-step instructions; one-button operation for beginners; a "Defaults" button to return your system to original settings for your version of windows; a "Find MaxMTU" button to check your connection for proper setting; and a Hosts File editor that will further speed access to your favorite web sites. Properly configures MaxMTU, RWin, TimeToLive, SessionKeepAlive, NDI Cache, and a local hosts file. With an intuitive user interface, clearly written help files and context-sensitive help buttons throughout, the program is easy to use despite its powerful features.
