Kill Dock will let you see the process id of the program which runs the Dock for OS X. Sometimes the Dock will get messed-up, specifically, I have had a problem with programs crashing and the Dock not recognizing it. Kill Dock will terminate the process, allowing OS X to restart it. This has, so far, fixed all the problems I have had.
