Check your speedIf all you are looking for is a simple means for capturing AIM instant messages, you'll have no complaints with this program. However, our testers found some errors with its Web view options, meaning this softwares usefulness is rather limited.
AIM Spy Monitor 2008 presents a simple interface with all of the main functions accessible through large easy-to-understand buttons. The controls include Start, Stop, Hide, and Config, and one click activates them all. Most of the real estate is given to a table that lists Time, User and Conversation Content, and a pane to view conversation details. There were some characters that AIM Spy Monitor couldn't read, and these were displayed as boxes, but the text was still very readable. There's also an option to export logs, but there's little difference compared to reading it in the viewing pane. It does, however, let you save the records in HTML format. The option to send logs via e-mail worked fine, but the Help manual doesn't provide much assistance for setting this up. Novice users might not be able to get this option up and running without some assistance. AIM Spy Monitor doesn't appear in the taskbar or in Task Manager, even when you have the interface open.
The evaluation version leaves a visible bar at the top of your desktop, but otherwise there are no limitations using the program. Parents or others who need to check on PC activity might want an application that covers other applications as well, but for those who are only concerned with AIM messages, this one works well.
