This flexible developer's tool simplifies scripting and debugging. AxScripter's multipaned interface is easily configured to fit a programmer's needs. On install you can choose to set the program to default to Delphi, Eclipse, or VisualStudio.Net key mapping. The app is geared toward experienced programmers but basic operation should be easy enough for those just learning scripting.

Operating AxScripter follows basic debugging conventions. Load a script-enabled Web site and this app displays any JavaScript. It's then easy to add breakpoints, run, or step through the script. Most functions take a single click to enable. Pull-down menus are logically arranged and easily accessible. Desktops are easily customized and saved for later use. For multitasking users, it is easy to switch through multiple desktops. Searching through code is lightning quick and easy to invoke with a hot key. Call stack and variable monitoring windows update during script play to help debugging.

AxScripter is stingy on memory, but not features. It offers most of the functions programmers need to create and edit Vbscript and JavaScript. With a lengthy 21-day demo period, new scripters and experienced programmers will have plenty of time to put this toll through its paces.

Featured Talkback

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
