After setup by an experienced user, this program effectively monitors a system for file changes and numerous other triggers. PA File Sight's interface is deceptively plain. The program quickly alters the main display window depending on the action implemented using a short function tree. The online Help file and manual is extensive and easy to follow. System administrators, small business network staff, and experienced users will have no problem operating this file monitor and report generator.

PA File Sight doesn't operate out-of-the-box. Users must spend time setting up Monitors that watch select folders for activity. Setup isn't a quick affair. There are numerous settings, actions, and decisions that must be completed for each monitor. Most options are easily set with pull-downs, check boxes, and common file designations, but they won't be understood by novices. Most users will set Event Monitors that track folders. Reading, changing, or deleting a file will trigger a user-selected Action. The power of this app is in the numerous notification options. Actions include e-mailing a message, executing a script, displaying a message box, playing a sound file, or sending an SMS text message. Creating an action is fairly simple using the basic wizard that prompts the user for the appropriate information.

After Monitors are set and running, users can easily create various reports depending on the data collected. Most can be scheduled to run automatically, and an Ad Hoc report generator prompts the user for information to quickly compile an HTML-based report. While it has little to offer most users, PA File Sight is a complete and easy-to-use watchdog for file activity.
