This application synchronizes your system clock with a few atomic servers, but the synchronize button failed during testing. The program doesn't require installation; just run the executable file and you're ready to go.

Franchise Time Sync's drab interface doesn't look like much, but it's easy to operate. You can have the program load when you boot your PC, sync your clock automatically at regular intervals or after connection is established, and then exit after synchronization. The program is preloaded with five atomic servers and you can add more when you click "More Servers." A constant connection to the Internet is preferred, as time synchronization is checked through the atomic time Web servers. Franchise Time Sync failed to connect to only one server (time.nist.gov) during testing.

Unlike similar applications, this one doesn't display the time drift between the system and server time. More on the downside, the Synchronize button failed to activate, even though there was a difference between the retrieved server time and our PC time. Even so, if you're willing to forgive a few slip-ups, this freeware is a viable option for ensuring accurate time.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
