This freeware Web page meta tag checker is quick and offers basic help for the novice Web page designer. Google's Meta Tag Checker's multipage interface requires some HTML experience to understand. You enter a URL on the program's primary page and see the results immediately. However, we did find the results page often failed to display the entered URL.

This utility merely checks your URL for five basic meta tags. It then offers basic advice on the relevancy of the tags to your page content. Almost as soon as you enter the URL and press submit you get the results. Don't expect detailed explanations though. For each tag the program lists possible errors, number of characters, and keyword relevancy to page content percentage. The short help file doesn't explain how the program arrives at the percentage, but promises that pages scoring 100 percent have a better standing with Google.

Googles Meta Tag Checker is freeware, takes seconds to install and run, and gives some helpful, basic information. It isn't going to replace search engine optimization tools, but will help remind novice Web page designers to include title, description, robots, author, and keyword meta tags on their pages.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
