This single-function application lets you schedule your computer's shutdown functions, but some features did not work in our tests. Green Computing Shutdown Scheduler has a neatly designed, straightforward interface available in three languages with self-explanatory options and features. You can choose to shut down, reboot, or log off your computer, or simply put it in standby mode. The program can effectively perform each of these aforementioned tasks in a user-specified time or it can be set for daily, weekly, or monthly recurrence. It also has one-click access to your system's power options for configuring hibernate and power schemes. However, running a shutdown function immediately did not work during our evaluation and prompted an error message. Users looking for a more functional program may find this 15-day trial application inadequate.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
