Using a combination of a wizard and easily set options, this Windows Registry error diagnostic aid tries to serve users of all levels. Unfortunately, that "all things to all people" approach likely will lead to experienced users being frustrated and novices scratching their heads.

Figuring out the location of functions and how they operate in Registry Repair Pro's primary interface will take most users a few minutes. That's because the program runs a wizard for the first scan. Users don't find the program's main menu right away. It takes a few Back commands to discover the multitab set of options.

Once found, you can easily set what items to scan in your Registry. Simply check any of the typical areas: invalid paths, fonts, help files, shared DLLs, application paths, file associations, and a half-dozen others. Registry Repair Pro is solidly middle-of-the road when it comes to scan speed. The results display is clean because the program only shows the number of errors of each type (no messy list of invalid registry entries). After the scan, the program creates a restore point and then immediately fixes entries. Of course, many users will find fault with the simple numbered list and immediate fix. Programs in this genre usually give the user more control to save select entries.

No matter how many errors found during the scan, the demo repairs only 15 entries. Users cannot choose which 15. Repair Registry Pro struck us as an odd combination of novice focused functionality and advanced user complexity. This program's convoluted and inflexible approach will irritate experienced users while novice users will find the Registry complexity overwhelming.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
