It presents a straightforward interface, but this PDF file compression tool includes preprocessing and compression options that will surely overwhelm novice users.

PDF Compressor Desktops plain interface isn't very eye-catching, but compression and decompression functions are neatly split into two self-explanatory tabs. Simply compressing a file using the default options is simple, but the more advanced preprocessing and compression settings are only for the experienced user. Preprocessing options allow you to apply settings to color, grayscale, and bitonal images. Compression options include bitonal image refinement, compression algorithm selection, and a watermark feature that, unfortunately, isn't available during the trial. The Help menu does offer a description of the program's different options, but novice users won't find any comfort in all of the technical jargon.

It's important to note that each time we tried to access the program, we encountered an error message. Once you click cancel, you'll be fine, but considering the hefty price tag, it might put off users who get the same results. For those who understand the advanced features, this tool offers a flexible approach to compressing PDF files. Novice users are better off sticking to a simpler, less-expensive compression tool.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
