K-3D is the free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling, animation, and rendering system. K-3D features a robust, object-oriented plug-in architecture, designed to scale to the needs of professional artists, and is designed from-the-ground-up to generate motion-picture-quality animation using RenderMan-compliant render engines. We strongly recommend the Aqsis render engine for use with K-3D. K-3D allows you to create and edit documents in multiple real-time OpenGL solid, shaded, texture-mapped views. You can even model, animate, and interact with animations while they play back for maximum productivity.

Note: The program comes bundled with the following software: Aqsis Renderer 1.1, Gtkmm Runtime Environment 2.8, Gtk+ Runtime Environment 2.8.18, and Pyhton 2.4.3. These applications are required to run the K-3D.

Featured Talkback

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
