Much more full-featured than Notepad and far more useful, TextEdit makes viewing and editing multiple documents a snap. With the convenient tabbed interface, you can easily change text case, insert the current date and time, and customize the program toolbar to access the most frequently used functions. The powerful search function supports regular expressions and can scan several files at once. Programmers will especially like TextEdit's file-comparison feature and its ability to automatically format several programming languages, including HTML, C++, and PERL. TextEdit proved very stable in our tests and even quickly opened 15MB files. You can save documents in multiple formats, including JavaScript and HTML. What's more, TextEdit is absolutely free. It's a no-brainer replacement for Windows' built-in text editor.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
