KaBoom Popup Blocker Free Edition halts a lot more than we'd like; it puts a stop to everything.

The program's interface looks like an advertisement, with more than half the window consumed by the product name and graphics. With simple check boxes to block Internet Explorer pop-ups and messenger service pop-ups, we thought this free version of KaBoom would be a breeze. Unfortunately, we quickly found that it locked our browser. In short order, with KaBoom's devices in effect, the program began freezing our entire desktop. Even the Control Panel was not safe from KaBoom's paralyzing grip.

After much finagling, we uninstalled the program, and our system was returned to working order. Do yourself a favor; skip KaBoom unless you actually want your system to go kaput.

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
