Though not the most straightforward utility, Pop This efficiently dispatches the most common pop-up windows. After installation, the program is so unobtrusive that it's hard to know whether it's working or not. The absence of a manual only makes things more perplexing, but eventually we found the program's controls hiding within Internet Explorer's Tools menu. Pop This only copes with the most frequently encountered pop-up windows, but it does the job thoroughly and without slowing down your PC. The interface leaves much to be desired--for instance, we couldn't immediately determine how to temporarily disable the utility for sites from which we wanted pop-up windows. A workaround is to add those sites to a whitelist. We'd recommend Pop This for those battling garden-variety pop-ups.

Featured Talkback

In association with Intel
Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
